Indemnity / Visitor Rules
All entrants to the Sanctuary for volunteer work parties or accessing the bird hide and observation stand will be required to sign an indemnity:
By entering the Korsman Bird Sanctuary, you acknowledge that you are exposing yourself, and those who accompany you, to certain risks, and agree to abide by all rules. Your presence and use of the facilities is entirely at your own risk. The Korsman Conservancy, its members, and the City of Ekurhuleni, shall not be held responsible for any injury or illness, sustained or suffered by you, or any person in your party, or for any loss, or damage to any property howsoever arising.
You further indemnify the Korsman Conservancy, its members, and the City of Ekurhuleni against any claim for any loss, damage or injury of whatsoever nature, sustained or suffered by you or any other person in your party.
These tips will keep it safe and pleasant:
- Korsman is a wild area and by entering, you do so at your own risk. Neither Korsman Conservancy nor City of Ekurhuleni are responsible for damage or injury.
- Wear sturdy footwear or gumboots.
- Walk slowly and carefully for personal safety and to prevent disturbing birds nesting in the grass. Holes in the ground are hidden by grass. Soft muddy areas start a long way from the water.
- Guardians accompanying children's groups must ensure the children walk slowly, talk quietly and stay out of the water to prevent disturbing the birds.
- Keep your possessions secure on your person - especially keys! Once lost in the grass, they are nearly impossible to find.
- The committee retains the right to prevent access to any person who does not respect the rules:
- Children under the age of 18 years must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
- Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is not permitted.
- Do not litter.
- No pets are allowed.
- Respect nature at all times.
